Fast and Furious 10 named "Fast X", now in production

Universal Pictures announced on the Fast and Furious Twitter account on Wednesday that "Fast X" is now in production and filming is underway.

The film is set to hit theaters on May 19, 2023, just over a year from now. The initial premiere date of April 7, 2023 has already been moved back.

Originally titled "F10" and "Fast10," the film "Fast X" will star Brie Larson of "Captain Marvel" and Jason Momoa of "Aquaman" with Vin Diesel.

Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne "The Rock," is one of the characters that will not return. After disagreements with Diesel, the wrestler-turned-actor has stated unequivocally that he will not return to the Fast and Furious franchise.

After directing "Fast and Furious" and parts three through six of the franchise, Justin Lin will helm "Fast X." Lin has previously stated in interviews that the saga's tenth and eleventh episodes will have sweeping story arcs to tie up the franchise and plot.

Diesel announced in 2021 that the franchise would conclude after the 11th episode, which is set to premiere in 2024.
