Owners of older Mercedes-Benz SUVs are urged to stop driving the vehicle immediately owing to an issue that might cause the brakes to fail. The automaker is recalling 292,000 vehicles and is even offering to tow affected SUVs to dealerships for service.
As a result of the vacuum leak at the brake booster, more power may be required to apply a vehicle's brakes, increasing stopping distances. In the worst-case situation, the booster might be damaged, leading the brakes to fail completely.
While no incidents or injuries have been recorded as a consequence of the issue, Mercedes-Benz is recommending owners not to drive impacted vehicles—even to dealerships. The business is providing free transportation to owners in order to bring them to workshops where the rubber brake booster sleeve will be removed, the brake housing will be examined, and parts will be replaced as needed. Mercedes-Benz will also assist clients in locating alternate transportation if an essential repair cannot be completed quickly.
