Elon Musk celebrates as Tesla produces over 3 million cars

Tesla has produced over three million vehicles, according to CEO Elon Musk's tweet on Sunday. According to the tweet, Tesla's Shanghai facility has produced one million automobiles out of that total.

“Congrats Giga Shanghai on making millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3M,” Musk tweeted.

Musk's announcement comes after months of China lockdowns and parts shortages that jeopardized Tesla's car production, and it shows that Tesla's Shanghai plant is manufacturing a considerable number of new vehicles following its debut in 2019 and subsequent years of investment.

Musk's total car milestone on Sunday comes as Tesla's reported deliveries, the closest estimate for sales, have been increasing in previous quarters. Tesla said in July that it delivered 254,695 vehicles in the second quarter, a 26.5% increase year over year.

Tesla announced earlier this year that it intends to expand vehicle deliveries by 50% each year.

Tesla also has plants in Fremont, California, Austin, Texas, and near Berlin, Germany, in addition to Shanghai. Musk said in July that the Fremont facility, the company's first, had produced 2 million vehicles.
