Porsche 911 Sally Special sells for record $3.6 million at auction

The unique Porsche 911 Sally Special, which will be launched in August 2022, has become the most expensive new Porsche sold at auction. It earned $3.6 million, considerably beyond many pre-auction forecasts, and the earnings would be donated to two organizations by the German automaker.

Porsche's Pixar "Cars" movie-inspired one-of-a-kind sold at an RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey, California. The winning offer was done over the phone, and the identity of the 911's new owner has not been revealed - we have no idea where Sally is going. Time will tell if the winner keeps the automobile hidden away in a private collection or drives and displays it at various occasions.

The revenues from the sale will be shared between the charities Girls Inc. and USA for UNHCR, however no details have been released. $3.6 million is a lot of money for a 911 GTS with a base price of $144,050, but the fact that the 911 Sally is a real one-of-a-kind and the charity aspect surely enticed bidders to open their wallets. The winning bidder received a second set of wheels for track usage, a watch, and a book detailing the design process, in addition to the automobile, which has various distinct aesthetic characteristics.

"The car attracted unprecedented interest. We saw a significant number of inquiries in the week before the auction, but this really accelerated in the final hours leading up to the event — driven by the incredible social media interest in the car," said RM Sotheby's global head of auctions Gord Ruff.
