The DBR22 is Aston Martins' new V12 speedster, comes with 705hp

Aston Martin unveiled the DBR22 on Monday, a glamy speedster that will make its formal premiere on Aug. 19 during the 2022 Monterey Car Week.

The DBR22 is technically a concept car, but such a magnificent design is too excellent to pass up, and Aston Martin has clearly suggested that a limited production run would take place. The number of automobiles manufactured will most likely be determined by how much attention the Monterey exhibition generates.

The DBR22 is an Aston Martin Q invention. It was created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Aston Martin's official personalization department, but it also displays the division's skill and range of potential. Previous designs include the Vulcan track vehicle and the Victor supercar.

The DBR22 is heavily influenced by the DBR1, the race car that gave Aston Martin its single 24 Hours of Le Mans outright victory in 1959, driven by legends Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby. According to Aston Martin, the later DB3S race vehicle from 1953 also influenced the design.

The design is an obvious continuation of Aston Martin's present motifs, but without the creases and panel gaps of previous models. There's also a new carbon-fiber grille design that replaces the typical metal veins. The remainder of the body panels are similarly made of carbon fiber.

The core construction is shared with Aston Martin's sports cars and, no doubt, the identical V12 Speedster limited edition that Aston Martin will introduce in 2020. New front and rear shear panels were added to boost torsional stiffness, as well as a new aluminum subframe constructed by Aston Martin utilizing several 3D-printed elements. It also has one-of-a-kind calibrations for the adaptive dampers and gearbox.

The engine is a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V-12 tuned for 705 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque in this application. The engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and exclusively powers the rear wheels. The combination of this technology with the lightweight speedster body results in a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds and a peak speed of 198 mph.
