Audi Unveils Long-Awaited Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron Electric SUVs

Audi is finally back in the launch game with the much-anticipated Q6 e-tron and its performance sibling, the SQ6 e-tron. These all-electric SUVs were originally slated for release in late 2022 but faced delays. Now, they are ready to take on rivals like the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, and Mercedes EQC.

The Q6 e-tron boasts a prestigious pedigree. It's built on the Volkswagen Group's new PPE platform, shared with the Porsche Macan EV. The design incorporates familiar Audi elements like the single-frame grille and minimal overhangs. It also borrows cues from the sporty e-tron GT, such as the rear light strip.

Audi emphasizes the advanced lighting technology. Drivers can choose from eight designs for the matrix headlights and rear OLED taillights. These lights can even project warning symbols for other drivers, promoting safety.

Tech-Packed Interior with Personalization Options

The interior features a modern three-screen layout. A digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel, paired with a central touchscreen angled slightly towards the driver. A unique third screen for the front passenger is optional on the Q6 but standard on the SQ6. This screen features a privacy filter to avoid distracting the driver.

The Q6 e-tron comes standard with cloud-based updates (OTA) and 5G compatibility, keeping the car's software current. Both models offer an impressive head-up display with augmented reality information projected onto a large virtual surface.

Powerful Performance and Flexible Charging

The Q6 e-tron delivers 388 horsepower, while the SQ6 e-tron packs a punch with 490 horsepower, boosting to 517 horsepower during launch control. This translates to a 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds for the Q6 Quattro and a blistering 4.3 seconds for the SQ6.

The Q6 e-tron boasts a versatile charging system. Its 800-volt architecture allows for fast charging at up to 270 kW on compatible DC terminals. It can also utilize 400-volt terminals at 135 kW. For AC charging, an 11 kW onboard charger is standard, with a 22 kW option available. Uniquely, Audi has included a second charger on the passenger side for added convenience.

The 100 kWh battery allows the Q6 e-tron to travel an impressive WLTP-estimated range of up to 625 kilometers on a single charge. The SQ6 offers a slightly lower range of 598 kilometers.
