A 1967 Toyota-Shelby 2000GT, chassis number MF10-10001, built as a pre-production model was auction and sold for 2.5million USD.
Only 351 Toyota 2000GTs were built between 1967 and 1971 and this special edition was originally finished in red and used as a test drive car in the United States, allowing the automaker to show the vehicle to potential American customers.
This vehicle, along with two other 2000GTs, were given to Shelby so that they could be converted into competitive race cars.
A 1,988 CC DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine produces 210 BHP at 7,000 RPM and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with limited-slip differential. The MF10-10001 was retired from racing and sent to Gulf States Toyota in Houston before being returned to Toyota's North American headquarters in Torrance, California, where it was retained as a demonstrator for special events.
