2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS leaked ahead of debut

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will be unveiled next week on April 19, but images of the brand's upcoming flagship electric SUV have leaked online thanks to Instagram user Cochespias.

The interior is no surprise as Mercedes-Benz already revealed it last month.

Curvy body panels, a large black faux grille with wraparound daytime running lights, and a full-width rear lighting system are all EQ design elements shared by the EQS SUV and the rest of the range.

The EQS SUV is slightly shorter and lower than its ICE counterpart, the GLS SUV, with a total length of 203 inches.

The MBUX 56-inch Hyperscreen, which combines the digital gauge cluster, center control screen, and passenger screen into one seamless piece of curved glass, will be featured in the EQS SUV's interior. The elegant Mercedes dial vents and multi-color ambient lighting are both familiar touches. A set of 11.6-inch displays integrated into the backrests of the front seats, a rear folding armrest with a wireless phone charging pad, and an MBUX tablet are also shown in press images.

In terms of powertrain, the carmaker says the upcoming EQ model will be equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive, which confirms a dual-motor setup. The dual motors in the EQS 580 4Matic sedan produce 523 PS (516 hp or 385 kW) and 855 Nm of torque, and this powertrain is expected to be used in the SUV as well, with the addition of an Off-Road drive mode.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama will produce the EQS SUV.
