Nissan Revs Up for an Extended Formula E Run in 2030

Nissan has announced a long-term commitment to Formula E, extending its participation in the electric racing series through the 2029-2030 season (Season 16). This marks a significant milestone for Nissan, solidifying its position as the first team to sign on for the next-generation Gen4 race car and the longest the automaker has competed in an FIA-sanctioned racing series.

Nissan's continued involvement in Formula E goes beyond just racing. The series serves as a valuable proving ground for developing and testing next-generation electric vehicle (EV) technology. By competing in one of the most demanding motorsport environments, Nissan engineers can push the boundaries of EV performance and efficiency.

The upcoming Gen4 race car promises to be a game-changer for Formula E. This next-generation machine will boast increased power output (804 hp) and faster charging capabilities compared to the current Gen3 car. Improved safety features are also a priority, ensuring the well-being of drivers.

While specific details about the powertrain for the next-generation Nissan GT-R remain under wraps, Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president and chief planning officer at Nissan North America, hinted that participation in Formula E is playing a crucial role in its development.

Adding to the excitement of Nissan's extended commitment, iconic race car constructor Lola Cars is making a thrilling return to motorsports. Partnering with Yamaha, Lola will join Formula E for Season 11, starting later this year. This new team entry injects a fresh dose of energy and competition into the electric racing series.

With Nissan's unwavering commitment and the arrival of a legendary name like Lola, the future of Formula E looks bright. The series is poised to continue its role as a catalyst for EV innovation and deliver even more high-octane racing action for fans around the world.
