Ford recalls over 650,000 pickup trucks and large SUVs due to windshield wiper

Ford is recalling over 650,000 pickup trucks and large SUVs in the United States due to windshield wipers that can break and fail.

The recall applies to certain Ford F-150 pickups, as well as Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from the 2020 and 2021 model years. From 2020 to 2022, F-250, 350, 450, and 550 trucks are also included.

Ford's F-Series pickup trucks are the best-selling vehicles in the United States.

According to documents posted Thursday by U.S. safety regulators, the teeth on the wipers are not the proper height. As a result, the wiper arms may become stripped. According to the documents, faulty wiper arms can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a collision.

Both front windshield wiper arms will be replaced by dealers. Owners will be notified in writing beginning May 23.

According to Ford Motor Company, as of February 25, it had received 754 reports of malfunctioning wiper arms. Due to a global shortage of computer chips, some of the trucks were built with higher-torque wiper motors.
