2023 BMW iX1 electric crossover revealed with 308 hp

The BMW X1 has been redesigned for the 2023 model year, and the new range includes an electric vehicle known as the iX1.

It was introduced on Tuesday alongside the normal 2023 X1, although its availability in the United States has yet to be confirmed.

The new X1 is built on BMW Group's FAAR platform, which is developed for small automobiles and SUVs. The iX1 employs a modified version of this platform with a floor-stored battery with an useful capacity of 64.7 kilowatt-hours.

The iX1 debuted in a single xDrive30 trim level with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a maximum output of 308 horsepower. BMW claims a timing of 5.7 seconds to 62 mph and a peak speed of 112 mph.

The fifth-generation electric motors are placed in modular drive units that combine a single motor with a single-speed transmission and power control unit.

Meanwhile, the battery has intelligently regulated heat management, allowing for quick charging and a reasonable range even in extremely low temperatures. BMW predicts that the range will be at least 250 miles.

The new X1 will be available in the United States later this year in a single xDrive28i trim level powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 producing 241 horsepower.

The X1 will also receive a performance grade with an internal-combustion engine, dubbed the X1 M35i.

All X1 variants will be manufactured in a BMW Group factory in Leipzig, Germany.

The iX1 is one of 13 electric vehicles that BMW Group plans to offer by the end of 2023.
