Toyota and Lexus Adopt Tesla's NACS Connector for Enhanced EV Chargin

Toyota and Lexus have joined the growing list of automakers adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), aligning with Tesla's connector. This decision aims to enhance the charging infrastructure for their electric vehicles (EVs). With this move, Toyota and Lexus gain access to Tesla's Supercharger Network, which will improve charging availability for their EV owners.

Starting in 2025, Toyota and Lexus plan to incorporate NACS inlets in certain BEVs, including the assembly of a new three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky facility. This partnership is set to launch a year after Ford and GM's adoption of NACS, granting them access to the Tesla Supercharger Network in Spring 2024.

To ensure a smooth transition, customers with Toyota and Lexus EVs equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) inlet will be provided with an adapter to enable NACS access in 2025.

The goal of this collaboration is to offer a seamless and convenient charging experience for EV owners, both at home and in public spaces. Toyota and Lexus have developed apps that grant access to an extensive charging network with over 84,000 charging ports across North America, including level 2 and DC fast chargers. The addition of NACS further expands these options, particularly for DC fast chargers, giving EV drivers greater flexibility to reach more destinations.

This partnership underscores the growing commitment of automakers to build a robust charging infrastructure to support the increasing adoption of electric vehicles. It is a significant step toward a more accessible and convenient charging ecosystem for EV users.
