Lucid Motors, the prominent California-based electric vehicle manufacturer renowned for its Air Sedan, has disclosed a challenging financial scenario in its latest report. The company revealed a distressing figure of over $430,000 in losses for every car sold during the third quarter of this year.

In the third quarter, Lucid reported a total revenue of $137.8 million, reflecting a decline from $195.5 million in the same period last year. The real concern emerges when assessing the net losses, which soared to nearly $630.9 million – an alarming $100 million increase from the previous year, all while managing to deliver only 1,456 vehicles.

This translates to an astounding loss of approximately $433,000 for each vehicle sold. While it represents an improvement compared to the $544,000 loss per vehicle reported in the second quarter, it remains a substantial sum, especially considering the fact that Lucid's most expensive vehicle costs around $250,000.

During Q3 2023, Lucid produced 1,550 electric vehicles, a figure that pales in comparison to the peak of 3,493 units achieved in the fourth quarter of the previous year. Consequently, the company has been forced to revise its production outlook for the year, lowering it to 8,000 to 8,500 units from the earlier target of 10,000 to 14,000 cars.

The financial picture for the first nine months of this year is equally grim, with Lucid reporting losses amounting to $2.17 billion, up from the $1.83 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2022.

Despite these financial struggles, Lucid remains committed to its mission. The company concluded the last quarter with $5.45 billion in liquidity, which is expected to support the launch of its second model, the Gravity SUV. Lucid's Chief Financial Officer, Sherry House, confirmed this, underscoring the company's commitment to growth.

During this challenging period, Lucid continued to expand its product lineup by introducing the Air Sapphire flagship and Air Pure RWD versions of its zero-emission sedan. The company also celebrated the opening of a new manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia and secured a significant deal with Aston Martin to supply the British automaker with its electric powertrain.

Lucid's CEO & CTO, Peter Rawlinson, acknowledged the challenges the company is facing but remained optimistic about the future. He pointed to the upcoming world premiere of the Lucid Gravity SUV at the LA Auto Show, scheduled for the following week. The Gravity SUV is poised to redefine the electric SUV segment and is set to commence production in late 2024.

The Lucid Gravity SUV is anticipated to share several drivetrain components with the Air sedan, allowing for a range of power options, from one to three electric motors, and power outputs ranging from 430 to 1,234 horsepower, in line with the capabilities of the Air sedan.

Audi has shifted gears to ramp up the production of electric motors for the eagerly awaited Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform, which is jointly developed with Porsche. The PPE platform has faced a series of setbacks, leading to delays in the launch of highly anticipated electric vehicles, including the electric Porsche Macan and the Audi Q6 e-tron.

In 2018, Volkswagen's premium brands, Audi and Porsche, unveiled their collaboration to create the PPE platform, with the aim of revolutionizing the electric vehicle landscape. This premium EV platform was engineered to drive down production costs, facilitate rapid charging, and incorporate cutting-edge digitalization and autonomous driving technology. It was also designed to expedite the introduction of new Audi and Porsche electric models.

Initially, the first PPE-based models were slated to hit the market by the end of 2021. However, a series of unforeseen delays have forced the platform's schedule to be pushed back.

These disruptions have, in turn, caused a ripple effect, impacting the release dates of new electric vehicles, including the highly anticipated all-electric Porsche Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron.

During a recent meeting of Volkswagen's board of directors, the automaker disclosed its plans to extend the delay of its 1.2 software, which is set to power the upcoming Porsche and Audi electric vehicles, by an additional 16 to 18 weeks. This decision underscores the challenges and intricacies involved in bringing cutting-edge EV technology to market and highlights the commitment of Audi and Porsche to delivering top-notch electric vehicles that live up to their premium branding.

The 2025 1500 Ramcharger takes the stage as "the ultimate electric truck." Under the hood, it boasts a 3.6-liter V6 engine, not as a power source for the wheels but as an on-board generator, effectively quashing range anxiety concerns.

This isn't your typical plug-in hybrid electric vehicle; the 3.6-liter engine isn't mechanically connected to the wheels. Instead, it serves as the charging source for the onboard generator, which, in turn, replenishes the substantial 95-kilowatt-hour battery. Ram has its sights set on an impressive total range of up to 690 miles, encompassing the battery and the charging system. A 27-gallon fuel tank feeds the V6, further extending the range.

The Ramcharger incorporates two electric drive modules (EDM): a 335-horsepower (250-kilowatt) front module and a 319-hp (238-kW) rear module. What sets it apart is the ability to automatically disengage the front wheels, allowing them to spin freely for enhanced efficiency. The rear EDM can be equipped with an electronic-locking differential.

Collectively, these power elements produce an astounding 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, propelling this EV from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a mere 4.4 seconds. The battery provides approximately 145 miles of electric-only range. The Ramcharger demonstrates its prowess with a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,626 pounds.

While Ram has kept the truck's curb weight under wraps for now, the power distribution is notable. The purpose-built 3.6-liter V6 generates 174 horsepower (130 kW) for the onboard generator. Drivers can employ this energy either to recharge the battery when it's depleted or to conserve it. The vehicle can simultaneously tap into both the generator and the battery for maximum power output, and various software and drive modes help manage the charging parameters, including a specialized one for towing.

Sitting atop Stellantis' STLA Frame platform, the Ramcharger accommodates its battery between the frame rails toward the front of the vehicle. The fuel tank is positioned behind the battery but ahead of the rear EDM. Adding to its prowess is a standard four-corner air suspension system, offering five different modes.

The truck's battery, kept cool by liquid cooling, lies flat underneath the vehicle's floor. When it comes to charging, it impresses with 400-volt DC fast charging, providing up to 145 kilowatts and adding 50 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Charging options include ports for Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast charging.

In terms of design, the Ramcharger beautifully combines elements from the new 2025 1500 and the 1500 REV. Its forward-leaning grille, accompanied by a pulsating RAM badge indicating the charge status, sets a distinctive tone. The truck features a body-color front fascia and EV-specific taillights, underscoring its electrifying presence.

As for pricing, Ram has remained tight-lipped, with expectations of revealing that information closer to the anticipated on-sale date towards the end of 2024. Enthusiastic buyers can reserve their place in line to pre-order the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV models for a limited time at RamRev.com.

As the calendar turns to the new year, the 2024 Lexus LX maintains its presence without any major alterations, following its minor updates for the 2023 model year.

Having received a complete redesign in 2022 and now exclusively offered in the LX 600 trim, the current-generation Lexus LX shares its underpinnings with the latest full-size Toyota Land Cruiser, known as the 300 series. Notably, this specific iteration of the Land Cruiser will not be making its way to the U.S. shores; instead, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser designated for the American market is a smaller vehicle, closely resembling the size of the Lexus GX.

Sharing its platform with the Land Cruiser grants the Lexus LX formidable off-road capabilities, further complemented by features like Multi-Terrain Select off-road drive modes, Crawl Control, hill-descent control driver aids, a Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system, and height-adjustable suspension. With the U.S.-spec Land Cruiser shrinking in size and cost, the Lexus LX now stands as the definitive flagship among Toyota and Lexus's off-road offerings.

What sets the LX apart from Toyota models is its fusion of off-road prowess with elevated luxury and a sophisticated infotainment system. This system features a dual-screen layout, with a 12.3-inch upper screen and a 7.0-inch lower screen. Additionally, it comes with standard wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enhancing the overall tech experience.

Under the hood, the sole powertrain option remains a robust 3.4-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, generating 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a standard four-wheel-drive system that includes a low-range mode.

The pricing for the 2024 Lexus LX begins at $90,515, with an obligatory $1,350 destination charge—an increase of a mere $10 from the 2023 model. The lineup offers various trim levels, including the base model (unnamed), Premium ($98,465), F Sport Handling ($104,725), Luxury ($106,465), and Ultra Luxury ($130,605). Enthusiasts can anticipate the arrival of the 2024 Lexus LX at dealerships before the year concludes.

Jeep's foray into electric vehicles has transitioned from concept testing to full-scale production plans. A recent UAW document detailing the agreement between the union and Jeep's parent company, Stellantis, has revealed that the upcoming Wrangler in the J70 series will be exclusively electric, with production set to commence in 2028 at the existing Wrangler plant in Toledo, Ohio. The endeavor will be supported by a substantial $1.5 billion investment in the facility.

This electric Wrangler will offer two powertrain options: a standard battery-electric setup and a series plug-in hybrid configuration. The latter will feature a smaller battery that's charged on the go by a gasoline engine functioning solely as a generator, similar to the strategy employed by Stellantis' Ram brand with their Ramcharger electric truck.

The document also disclosed that the current-generation Wrangler and its Gladiator counterpart will continue production until 2028. In 2025, the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid will see updates, and at the same time, a Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid will join the lineup. Notably, there was no mention of the Gladiator's fate beyond 2028, hinting at the possibility of its discontinuation to make way for a Ram midsize pickup truck. This midsize Ram is expected to be an electric truck, with production slated to begin in 2027 at Stellantis' plant in Belvidere, Illinois.

Jeep has previously showcased three electric Wrangler concepts under the Wrangler Magneto series. While these concepts were based on the current Wrangler's body-on-frame platform, the production electric Wrangler is expected to adopt one of Stellantis' four dedicated electric vehicle platforms, including a body-on-frame design.

Before the arrival of the electric Wrangler, Jeep plans to launch an electric off-roader in the form of the Recon SUV. This vehicle, built on Stellantis' STLA Large dedicated EV platform, will feature off-road capabilities with Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management, an e-locker axle, under-body protection, tow hooks, robust off-road tires, removable doors, and a power top with a spacious opening for a semi-open-air experience.

Rolls-Royce, the epitome of luxury and bespoke automotive craftsmanship, has introduced its latest masterpiece: the "Pearl Cullinan." This exceptional creation is a pearl-themed rendition of the renowned Cullinan SUV, crafted as a heartfelt 90th birthday gift for a fortunate father.

Commissioned in 2022, the Pearl Cullinan marks a significant milestone as the inaugural bespoke Rolls-Royce from the automaker's Private Office Dubai, a dedicated hub serving discerning customers in the Middle East.

The exterior of the Pearl Cullinan is a testament to meticulous attention to detail. It boasts an exclusive Pearl Rose paint finish, inspired by a pearl from the owner's private collection. This exclusive color is not on offer to other customers, making the Pearl Cullinan a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Achieving this exquisite finish required an astonishing 30 iterations, all meticulously tested on full-size body panels. These panels were carefully examined under specialized lamps to replicate the intense Middle Eastern sunlight, ensuring that the paint would gleam brilliantly under these conditions. In-depth ultra-violet testing was conducted to guarantee its longevity.

To add a touch of opulence, the exterior features a hand-painted Rose Gold pinstripe and boasts a rose gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament and tread plates, elevating its visual elegance to new heights.

The interior of the Pearl Cullinan is a sanctuary of luxury. It showcases two distinct leather colors, Cashmere Gray for the front seats and Ardent Red for the rear seats. The choice of Ardent Red is a nod to the tradition of presenting pearls on a backdrop of this rich hue. The burr walnut wood veneer, adorning the cabin, draws inspiration from the wooden presentation boxes historically used to offer pearls to esteemed clients.

True to its name, the Pearl Cullinan sets a remarkable standard by featuring the most mother-of-pearl in any Rolls-Royce production car. Each rear picnic tabletop is adorned with an astonishing 1,351 separate pieces of meticulously chosen mother-of-pearl, all placed by hand to achieve perfection. The dashboard fascia showcases a mother-of-pearl inlay and, uniquely, the Arabic word for "father" in stainless steel. The dashboard clock is set within a mother-of-pearl surround, with a rose gold dial and hands. To add a celestial touch, the Starlight Headliner reflects the night sky as it appeared on the night the customer's father was born.

Creating one-of-a-kind vehicles is a tradition at Rolls-Royce. Recent examples include a pink Ghost designed for an internet personality and the extraordinary Phantom Syntopia, which took four years to complete due to its complexity.

For those with the means, Rolls-Royce offers the opportunity to create a completely unique car, unrelated to any existing model in their lineup. These coachbuilt specials exemplify the pinnacle of individualized automotive luxury, and the Pearl Cullinan is a shining testament to this tradition.

Maranello, Italy - In a surprising turn of events, Ferrari, the renowned Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, reported that deliveries of hybrid vehicles exceeded those of traditional internal combustion engines (ICEs) in the third quarter of this year. This revelation was officially disclosed in a document presented to investors, shedding light on Ferrari's performance from July through September. During this period, the company shipped a total of 3,188 cars bearing the iconic Prancing Horse logo, marking a substantial increase of 271 cars compared to the same quarter in 2022.

What makes this development particularly striking is that of the total volume of cars delivered, 51.3 percent were hybrids, while only 48.7 percent were pure gasoline-powered vehicles. Ferrari's product lineup in Q3 2023 comprised nine ICE models and four hybrids. It's worth noting that Ferrari's first all-electric model is not expected until 2025. In the meantime, the surge in demand during the third quarter was primarily driven by the 296 and SF90 lineups, both of which feature plug-in hybrid powertrains. These models marked Ferrari's initial foray into the world of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), as even the LaFerrari did not come equipped with a charging port. Instead, it relied on a battery tender for replenishing its main battery.

While these results are encouraging for hybrid technology enthusiasts, it remains to be seen whether this trend will persist in the future. The eagerly anticipated V12-powered Purosangue, a high-performance SUV, was in the ramp-up phase during this period and could potentially tip the scales in favor of traditional ICE vehicles. Additionally, recent spy shots have hinted at an upcoming 812 replacement, which may also skip hybridization. Nonetheless, Ferrari, like other automakers, faces mounting pressure from stricter emissions regulations and the need to adapt to evolving industry standards.

In light of these challenges, Ferrari is shifting its focus towards electrification. The company's vision for the future includes the projection that by the end of the decade, 40 percent of cars delivered to customers will be fully electric, with an additional 40 percent being hybrid vehicles. This leaves just 20 percent of Ferrari's lineup designated for pure internal combustion engines.

While the future might appear bleak for traditional gasoline engines, there is still a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Ferrari's CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has expressed optimism about the future of ICE technology. He emphasized the potential of e-fuels as a sustainable solution, stating that "ICE still has a lot to do" and highlighting the possibility of running cars with neutral fuels. Vigna firmly believes that internal combustion engines and electrification can coexist, underlining this as a key element of Ferrari's strategic direction.

Ferrari's surprising success with hybrid sales in the third quarter of 2023 reflects the broader shift in the automotive industry towards electrification. While the fate of traditional engines remains uncertain, the iconic Italian automaker is poised to adapt and thrive in an evolving landscape, embracing the electric future while still recognizing the value of internal combustion technology.
