On April 20, Lexus will unveil its newest electric vehicle, which will feature a steering yoke similar to the new Tesla Model S and Model X.
On April 20 at 6 a.m. ET, the Lexus RZ 450e will make its world debut. While details are scarce at the moment, Lexus has released a few images of the vehicle's exterior. It adheres to Lexus' classic luxury design, with sleek and streamlined features that scream luxury and performance.
“Developed under the ‘Lexus Driving Signature’ philosophy, the RZ is the first dedicated Lexus BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle),” Lexus said. “It is designed and engineered to set a new benchmark in terms of premium driving experience, providing the driver with a carefully crafted and intimate connection with their car, characterized by confidence, control, and comfort.”
The Lexus RZ 450e will include the yoke steering wheel, which has been a highly controversial addition to Tesla's premier flagship vehicles, the Model S and Model X. The yoke is not for everyone, as Tesla owners have given it mixed reviews. However, when it came to attaching the yoke to the refreshed designs of the S and X, Tesla decided to go all-in, making it the only option for the cars. Of course, publications such as Consumer Reports were quick to give their verdict on the yoke, which was negative. The yoke, on the other hand, is entirely subjective.
In the United States, regulators have no preference as to whether or not the yoke is included with new vehicles. Teslarati contacted the NHTSA, the United States' governing agency for vehicle safety, and was told that Tesla was in contact with them about the yoke. Manufacturers, on the other hand, are responsible for making "good faith" decisions about vehicles and are required to use their best judgment when determining safety features.
The yoke is currently unknown whether it will be standard or optional on the Lexus RZ 450e. More information about the vehicle will be revealed at the April 20 unveiling event.
