Worker killed in an explosion at Hyundai Heavy Shipyard

A worker was killed in an explosion at a Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. shipyard in the southeastern port city of Ulsan on Saturday, according to authorities.
When the incident happened at 7:48 a.m. at a facility of the world's largest shipbuilder in the city, 415 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the employee in his 50s, recruited by a subcontractor, was cutting steel plates with oxy-fuel gas.
According to authorities, he fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead. Other personnel on the site were unharmed. The cause of the explosion is being investigated by police.
The Hyundai shipyard in Ulsan employs around 30,000 workers.
Owners and CEOs of enterprises with five or more employees may face a minimum one-year jail sentence or a punishment of one billion won ($ 819,830) under a new industrial accident statute in the case of an accident that results in death or serious injury.
